CIRCUS THEATRICALS LAUNCHES THE NEW AMERICAN SCREENPLAY CONTEST

Grand Prize Short Screenplay winner will be produced in Hollywood,

Grand Prize Feature winner wins cash and other prizes.

December 1, 2009 – Award-winning and critically-acclaimed theatre company Circus Theatricals announces the launching of The New American Screenplay Contest. Designed to find and produce screenplays from around the world, the contest has a short and a feature category. The Grand Prize Short Screenplay winner will be produced in Hollywood, and the Grand Prize Feature winner will be awarded cash and other prizes. Scripts will be judged by a panel of industry experts. The contest is now receiving entries through April 15, 2010.

“The New American Screenplay Contest is a natural step for our company, says Circus Theatricals artistic director Jack Stehlin. “We have spent the past 25 years supporting writers by producing new plays, both full length and one acts, in productions in Los Angeles and New York. I am very excited about the launch of our screenplay contest, which will allow us to now produce original works in film. We are proud and pleased to have the support of such a distinguished panel of judges.”

The panel of judges for the 2010 contest includes “ The Twilight Saga: New Moon” director Chris Weitz ; international film, stage and television actor Alfred Molina (“Spiderman 2”, “Frida”, “Boogie Nights”) ; director/producer David Trainer (“That ‘70’s Show”, “Designing Women”); Producer Simon Mirren (“Criminal Minds”); Vice President, Casting, CBS Paramount Network Television Matt Skrobalak ; and Actor/Director/Producer Jack Stehlin (DEA Captain Roy Till on Showtime’s “Weeds,”).

The New American Screenplay Contest is now receiving entries for the 2010 competition. The early deadline for entries is January 15, 2010 and the final closing deadline is April 15, 2010.

The New American Screenplay Contest is sponsored by: Final Draft, Sony Creative Software, IndiePix, Creative Screenwriting Magazine, InkTip and Circus Theatricals Foundation.
